DESCRIPTION OF THE ROUTE: Altos de la Piedad-Camino natural del Eresma-Caserío de Lobones. Same way for the return journey.

This route is suitable for everyone. Enjoy the spectacular views during the journey. The route starts along the path indicated with red signals. We ride around the motocross racing track and then take the way to our left that leads us to the end of the valley, finding a gentle slope. Taking the natural way again we cross the River Eresma by the wooden bridge San Pedro Abanto and ride parallel to the CL-607 as far as the rest area La Pilarcita, close to the Pilarcita Hermitage. Special care must be taken as you cross the road. Then keep on along the path that goes through fields of pasture and crops, behind the Escuela de Capacitación Agraria (Agricultural Training School) and Centro Ecuestre de Castilla y León (Equestrian Centre). Another rest area, El Zorroclín, is found nearby. Ride on until you find a display panel that indicates a detour towards an unpaved public path following the natural path towards Hontanares railway station. Keep on riding until you get close to Caserío de Lobones, where the path stops and then we start our way back.

LANDSCAPE:

The route starts at El Pinarillo, leaving the little forest of stone pines on our right. Watch the spectacular views of the Alcázar, the cathedral, Romanesque churches and the mountains. We then take the way through pastures and crops to get to the end of the valley, where the River Eresma is surrounded by black poplars and willows. After crossing the CL-607 and going through pastures and crops again we get to a small pine forest and an area of black poplars as the way gets nearer to the Eresma.

RECOMMENDED STOPS:

Altos de la Piedad: Before starting the route and at the end of it, walk to the viewpoint of La Piedad and enjoy the bright light of the city and its surroundings.

El Pinarillo: a small forest of pine trees. Very near to the end of this path we turn left to avoid the steep slope to the end of the Eresma Valley. Make a quick stop and admire the little forest of scone pines planted in the middle of 19th century by the Society of Friends of the Country. Don´t miss the viewpoints of Último Pino and Alcázar; from here you can enjoy one of the most spectacular views of the historic Segovia. Here time seems to stop. Also at El Pinarillo you can find the remains of the old Jewish cemetery in Segovia.
